Helping Writers to Rise and Thrive

Writing the Personal Essay

Tuesdays, 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.; begins January 14, 2020
Jamie Chesbro
Seven weeks, $395 (Limited to six students)

If you’ve ever wondered how to transform your true stories into emergent essays of substance, this is the workshop for you.

Essayists are in pursuit of discoveries. What we’re after are those illusive insights into the human condition that we sense and are driven to write. Come join us this fall and discover yours.

Each week, we will focus in on the art and craft of your reflected thoughts, and by the end of the seven weeks of this inclusive and supportive environment, you will have written at least one full draft of an essay.

The instructor, James M. Chesbro, is the author of A Lion in the Snow: Essays on a Father’s Journey Home. His work has appeared in  The Writer’s Chronicle; America; The Washington Post; Essay Daily; The Millions; Huff Post; and Brain, Child Magazine, among others. Essays from  “A Lion in the Snow” were chosen as notable selections in “The Best American Essays” series 2012, 2014, 2015, 2017, and 2018, as well as “The Best American Sports Writing” 2014.
