Helping Writers to Rise and Thrive

Writing Publishable Mysteries and Thrillers

Thursdays, 10 to noon ET. Begins September 12. (Will not meet Oct. 3.)
Tessa Wegert
Seven weeks, $395. Limited to six participants.

Do you have a stellar idea for a suspense or detective novel? Are you working on a mystery or thriller and hope to see it published? Whether you’re a seasoned writer, new to the genre, new to writing in general, or want some guidance with your work-in-progress, this seven-week in-person course will help you reach your goal.

Led by awesome instructor Tessa Wegert, the author of a critically acclaimed six-book crime fiction series, among other works, you’ll learn tips and techniques that power the mystery and thriller genres. Each week, you will get (respectful, honest) feedback on your writing from Tessa and your peers around the table, so that you can create, revise, and edit your work with an eye toward publication. Together, Tessa and crew will help you craft your novel as perfect as possible for agent and editor submission.

Tessa’s Shana Merchant mysteries—which include Death in the Family, The Dead Season, Dead Wind, The Kind to Kill, Devils at the Door, and The Coldest Case—have received starred reviews from Publishers Weekly and Shelf Awareness and have been featured on PBS and NPR Radio. Tessa co-founded Sisters in Crime CT, currently serves on the board of International Thriller Writers, and co-directed ITW’s PitchFest in New York City.

Over the years, Tessa has taught classes on everything from locked-room mysteries to developing a series and promoting books online. She enjoys helping writers craft compelling stories with market appeal, is a lifelong lover of the Oxford comma, and believes deeply in the power of the writing community.

This class meets live and in-person or via Zoom. Your choice!
