Helping Writers to Rise and Thrive

Writing for Television, Level 2

Thursdays, 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., ET. Starts March 9, 2023. (In-person.)
GiGi Rios New
Seven Weeks, $395

This workshop is a continuation of veteran TV writer GiGi New’s “Writing for Television” course. You will work on the elements essential for developing a strong comedy, drama or dramedy script. You will better understand the platform for your program (Amazon, Hulu, Apple+, Netflix etc) or network (ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX), nail the genre, determine cameras and more.

With GiGi’s tutelage, you will create clear, concise character arcs, raise the emotional or physical stakes and polish your snappy dialogue.

Please note that having Final Draft software is not a requirement for this course, but it is recommended and necessary in order to adhere to the proper formatting for submitting your work to festivals or competitions.

You may register for this course if you have taken GiGi’s Intro to TV writing, or with permission of the instructor. That, plus a willingness to have a good time and a few laughs over the course of seven weeks.

GiGi Rios New is a writer for the HBO Max series The Garcias and has developed TV shows for Matthew Broderick and Olivia Colman. Her screenplay Public Emily is in development with Emmy-nominated AGC Studios. Killer Films Production Company (Still Alice, Carol, Boys Don’t Cry, Halston – Netflix series) is attached to GiGi’s original TV show Mercy, and she has written a TV movie for Lifetime Television. GiGi served as a writing assistant on the sitcom Everybody Loves Raymond.
