In this workshop, 13-time Emmy Award-Winning songwriter Andy “A.J.” Gundell takes students new to songwriting step-by-step through the process of writing and selling a modern pop song. It doesn’t matter whether lyrics or chord progressions are your strength – A.J. meets you where you are and, over the weeks, helps you write a hook, verses for your chorus and a bridge.
In addition to working on your piece, A.J. explains the commercial side of the music business, covering everything from recording demos to digital workstations to licensing sites to polishing your pitch.
Students are encouraged to bring in an instrument, if they have one. Each six-week session culminates in a showcase highlighting new songs.
