This workshop is for anyone interested in playing with language. Each week you will talk, engage in prompt-based writing exercises, and explore stylistic techniques and form with instructor April Krassner. You will experiment with writing poetry, taking risks with approaching the work. You will follow the energy of what emerges on the page and consider strategies for revision.
The goal is to help you develop a sense of your individual process in poetry; to understand the necessity for specificity; and to explore strategies for writing, listening, and revision within the genre. By the end of the workshop, you should have a small portfolio of work.
At the conclusion of the session, each student can meet with April one-on-one to discuss the portfolio and next steps.
Everyone is welcome, whether you are new to writing and poetry or are a more experienced poet. Come join the class. Let’s see what happens.
April Krassner spent the last 22 years at New York University teaching expository and creative writing. She has always been obsessed with language and has taught every grade level from kindergarten through college and beyond. A poet, April’s work has appeared in print and online in publications including Poetry Breakfast, Anderbo, the anthology Journey to Crone, and Eunonia Review among others. Her chapbook, “If It’s True,” is available through Bottlecap Press.
