Do you dream of writing? Or do you dream of returning to writing? If so, this workshop is for you.
Under the tutelage of writer and teacher Phaye Poliakoff-Chen, (Re)Start Here provides you with the chance to explore and imagine, on the page. Start, kickstart, or restart your writing journey. Learn aspects of craft, and tell a story you want to tell in the way you want to tell it.
Each week, you’ll receive an open-ended, imaginative exercise designed to help you explore various genres and styles. You don’t have to do it; you can bring in a work-in-progress instead. You’ll explore new paths and perspectives designed to ignite your creativity. In the process, you’ll find your voice and your stories. You might be surprised by what’s been waiting to be told!
During each meeting, you may share a piece (700 words, max), for (honest and respectful) feedback from Phaye and your workshopmates. You’ll explore elements that work, that ignite, excite, and/or move readers. If something isn’t working, you’ll receive and provide suggestions for how to polish each other’s pieces for publication.
For this workshop, Phaye will Zoom in each week from Baltimore. You can either Zoom in from wherever, or, if you’d rather, come to the Studio to be among other writers.
Phaye Poliakoff-Chen is the former director of the Writing Program at Goucher College, Phaye leads lively and respectful discussions that illuminate craft, themes, and connections in the stories you create and share around the table each week. Phaye’s work has appeared in Tupelo Quarterly, Southern Exposure, and Frontiers, among other publications. Her collection of short fiction, “The Art of Work,” was published by Booktrope, and, says Phaye, “remains the most stolen book in the Kratz Library at Goucher College.”
