Living through a series of transformational events can be hard enough; oftentimes, writing about them can seem equally challenging. Where do you start? Here, in this workshop with bestselling author, editor and ghostwriter Jacqueline Burt Cote.

Jacque will help you give shape and structure to your story, so that you can turn it into a narrative for readers. She will teach you about scenes, setting, voice, narrative arc and more.

The class will explore different techniques used in different memoirs. Students will create and workshop their writing each week. The goal of the course is for you to understand the mechanics of memoir and to use these tools to generate material that will eventually become a first draft manuscript.

Jacque’s personal essays and other writings have been published in print and online in Salon, the Huffington Post, Parents, Parenting, American Baby, Mommyish, Pregnancy, Time Out New York Kids, Bon Appetit, Details, WhatToExpect.com, The Stir and many others. She is an editor and regular contributor to Romper.com and has appeared on Anderson Cooper 360, Good Morning America, HuffPost Live and more.

She is a ghostwriter of memoirs, as well as the author of “Fast & Fresh Baby Food Cookbook: 120 Ridiculously Simple and Naturally Wholesome Baby Food Recipes.”
